Here’s why Adam Copeland (Edge) can use his WWE entrance theme in AEW, following his appearance at the WrestleDream pay-per-view.
In the closing moments of the October 1 show, Christian Cage, Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne were attacking Darby Allin and Sting, when they were interrupted by Alter Bridge’s Metalingus.
Sure enough, Copeland made his AEW debut, making his entrance with his iconic theme music.
While this was definitely a memorable debut, some fans have questioned how it was possible for Copeland to enter to Metalingus.
According to Fightful Select, WWE never held exclusive licensing rights to this song, so there was nothing preventing AEW from also licensing the song.
As for Copeland still using his ‘Rated-R Superstar’ nickname, Fightful noted that WWE had allowed their trademark for this term to lapse, and hadn’t renewed it ahead of Copeland leaving.
Per Fightful, there were some within AEW who were surprised about this.
Following his AEW debut, Copeland shared a statement explaining his decision to leave WWE.
The WWE backstage reaction to the Rated-R Superstar’s departure ahead of his AEW debut has also been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
