Why WWE & AEW Had COVID Outbreaks At The Same Time

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has revealed the likely reason why we saw outbreaks of COVID in both WWE (mainly NXT) and AEW over the last week or so.

In his report, Meltzer noted that the reason we saw both companies impacted at the same time is due to the fact that wrestlers both WWE and AEW socialise with each other, with some even being in relationships together:

Talent from WWE and AEW socialize, go to the gym together, and some are even in relationships together, as well as socialize with some of the same fans and insiders. One person very familiar with the testing results and spread said that was the key reason why it happened at the same time with both companies.

This certainly makes sense. There are several WWE & AEW cross-promotional relationships, like Britt Baker and Adam Cole and Shawn Spears and Peyton Royce, that could have caused both promotions to be more likely to be impacted by the virus at the same time.

It was first reported earlier this week that there had been another outbreak of COVID in WWE. While the outbreak impacted all three brands, it was believed that the NXT roster was hit the hardest by the latest outbreak.

This was followed by a report a few days later that noted that some wrestlers with AEW had also tested positive for the virus, with top star Lance Archer being forced to pull out of the show after being diagnosed with COVID.
