An update has emerged on WWE’s plans for WrestleMania 40, with the number of “long matches” planned for WrestleMania 40 Night One revealed.
Seven of the 13 matches booked for the two-night WrestleMania 40 event will take place on Saturday’s show.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, four of the matches slated for WrestleMania 40 Night One are expected to be given a significant amount of time.
Meltzer wrote:
“The plan was to do four long matches on night one, starting with the Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch opener, as well as the ladder match for the tag titles, the semifinal of Gunther vs. Sami Zayn and of course the tag match, which is expected to be filled with bells and whistles with a long story.
“Every match on the show is likely to be very good and the four key matches, for very different reasons, have shots at being exceptional. Also, all four are likely to be very different.”
Saturday’s event will be headlined by a huge tag-team match, with Roman Reigns and The Rock set to face off against Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes.
The full card for WrestleMania 40 Night One is as follows:
– Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch
– Tag Team Championship Ladder Match

– Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
– Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill & Naomi vs. Damage CTRL
