WWE Stars Win AAA Championship

Two WWE main roster stars have now won gold in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, winning their championship match at TripleManía Regia.

There has been a lot of curiosity surrounding the future of AAA, following WWE announcing its acquisition of the promotion in April.

We’ve now had our first instance of WWE talent winning AAA gold, with the AAA Tag Team Championship changing hands on June 16.

TripleManía Regia saw Sansón & Forastero of Nueva Generación Dinamita defend their gold against Psycho Clown and Pagano, WWE’s Angel & Berto of Los Garza and TNA Wrestling’s Nic Nemeth & Ryan Nemeth.

Angel and Berto were ultimately victorious, becoming AAA Tag Team Champions in the penultimate match of the night.

When the duo were previously announced for this title match, Santos Escobar noted that Los Garza winning the gold would be the first step in a multi-step plan for Legado Del Fantasma in AAA.

He also indicated that he will soon visit the promotion to challenge for the AAA Mega Championship.

AAA’s top title is currently held by El Hijo Del Vikingo, who defended the championship against Alberto El Patron in a steel cage match at TripleManía Regia.

WWE’s Chad Gable challenged for the gold at Worlds Collide, but El Hijo Del Vikingo ultimately retained his gold.
