An update has emerged on the contract status of another potential WWE signing and Bloodline member, following Tama Tonga’s WWE debut.
Following heavy speculation about WWE interest, Tama Tonga made a surprise appearance on Friday’s (April 12) edition of SmackDown, helping Solo Sikoa to beat down Jimmy Uso.
Tonga was presented as a new ally for Sikoa, with commentary referring to Tonga as the son of Haku multiple times.
It had been reported in April 2023 that WWE had shown interest in Tama Tonga, as well as his brother Hikuleo. Ahead of Tonga’s debut, reports indicated that both stars had conversations with WWE in 2023.
While Hikuleo is currently a NJPW star, a new report has revealed that his current contract is set to expire in a matter of months.
Per Fightful Select, Hikuleo’s deal with NJPW is expected to run into June. Fightful hasn’t learned whether or not Hikuleo has a new deal lined up, but it was also noted that the contract of Hikuleo’s current tag-team partner, El Phantasmo, was expected to have ended in January.
As was previously reported, Hikuleo was one of several stars who WWE missed out on signing during the company’s previous ‘hiring freeze’.
Following last year’s reports about WWE interest in Hikuleo, the star went on to win the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship in May 2023, the STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship that October and the IWGP Tag Team Title in January, which he dropped 38 days later.
Tonga was an established NJPW veteran ahead of his departure in February 2024, holding the IWGP Tag Team, NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team and NEVER Openweight titles all on multiple occasions.
The backstage reaction to Tama Tonga’s WWE debut has now been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
