While the ‘Bruiserweight’ hasn’t defended his championship on a TakeOver, he’s been far from dormant with the title. He’s defended it seven times on NXT TV (not counting the most recent tapings). In addition, Dunne has been active on the road, defending his championship at nine live events. He’s also done something no other year-long champion in WWE has done in the modern era, as he’s put his title on the line across several promotions. He’s defended in companies such as PROGRESS, ICW, and Futureshock during his reign.
So while those who strictly watch NXT, or even just the TakeOvers, may look at this accomplishment as being no more impressive than Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship reign, holding the belt for a year is far from the only major accomplishment he’s had. His out-of-company defenses have made his time on top all the more impressive.
With the second United Kingdom Championship Tournament looming, it’s unlikely Dunne will drop the title before June ends.
