A championship under the WWE umbrella has officially been vacated following a recent injury suffered by the champion.

A couple of weeks ago on NXT, AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo Del Vikingo was set to defend the title against EK Prosper.

However, while preparing for the match earlier that day, Vikingo suffered an injury that ruled him out of action, and he had to miss the match, with Prosper instead facing Keanu Carver in a rematch from a week prior.

Vikingo underwent surgery for his injury over the past week and wasn’t on tonight’s show, with fellow El Ojo members Dorian Roldan and Omos headed to the ring, with Roldan holding Vikingo’s title belt.

Roldan announced that Vikingo is going to be out for “many, many weeks.”

Roldan blamed WWE Hall of Famer and AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio for Vikingo’s injury because he sent Vikingo to SmackDown and NXT which was “negligent,” and he’s going to sue Mysterio as a result.

Roldan then announced that due to Vikingo’s injury, the Latin American Championship was being transferred to fellow El Ojo member Omos.

However, AAA GM Rey Mysterio then came out to join Roldan and Omos in the ring to weigh in on the situation.

Mysterio said Roldan can’t simply transfer the title to Omos, and asked Omos to hand the belt back, or he’d be suspended indefinitely.

Omos did then hand the belt over to Mysterio, who declared that the championship is officially vacated.

Next week, Mysterio is going to announce how the new champion will be determined.

We’ll keep you posted on that announcement, but with the WWE AAA Verano De Escandalo event coming up on July 25, that seems like an ideal place to crown a new champion.

Shortly after, there was a video message from former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest, saying he wants a shot at the Latin American Title.
