Change Made To WWE Plans For WrestleMania Title Contender’s Match Revealed WWE

A change made to plans for the Intercontinental Title WrestleMania #1 contender’s Gauntlet match on WWE Raw has now been revealed.

Ricochet, JD McDonagh, Bronson Reed, Shinsuke Nakamura Chad Gable, Sami Zayn were in action on the March 11 show, facing off in a Gauntlet match to determine Gunther’s title challenger for WrestleMania 40.

Sami Zayn was ultimately victorious, scoring wins over Bronson Reed, Shinsuke Nakamura and Chad Gable to end the Gauntlet bout as the last competitor standing.

A report shared by Fightful Select before WWE Raw shows that the original line-up for matches within the Gauntlet was different from what actually played out.

Per this report, the original plan was – Reed was set to defeat Ricochet in the opening leg, before Sami Zayn would beat Reed, McDonagh and Nakamura ahead of facing Chad Gable in the final leg of the match.

What actually ended up happening was – Ricochet vs McDonagh opened the Gauntlet, with Ricochet advancing and losing to Bronson Reed. Reed then lost to Sami Zayn, who then defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and Chad Gable to win the entire bout.

The apparent change meant that Ricochet scored a fall over McDonagh in the Gauntlet.

Ricochet was notably the man who Gunther defeated for the Intercontinental Championship to begin his historic reign in June 2022.

WWE has now confirmed that Sami Zayn will challenge for Gunther’s gold at WrestleMania 40 with the company sharing a new graphic for the match.

Many fans have taken to social media to voice their outrage following Chad Gable’s loss, with a #WeWantGable hashtag appearing online.

An emotional Chad Gable has now commented on his Gauntlet match loss, which you can read more about right here.
