WWE ‘Optimistic’ Major CM Punk Dream Match Could Happen WWE

WWE are said to be optimistic that a major CM Punk dream match could happen following his return to the company.

CM Punk returned to WWE after almost 10 years away at Survivor Series in Chicago this past weekend, and there are a whole host of potential dream matches waiting for him.

One match that never happened during Punk’s initial run with the company was the dream match between him and Stone Cold Steve Austin, due to Austin being retired during Punk’s run.

However, Austin returned to the ring for the first time in 19 years for a match with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 last year, meaning now is the first time the match could actually be possible.

In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), upon Punk’s return to the company, there were several within WWE pushing for the possibility of Punk facing off with Steve Austin, to the point that Punk had even had discussions about the possibility.

As of now, many within the company are hopeful and even optimistic that the match could finally happen, with one source indicating that many ideas have already been floated between Punk and the company.

Fightful notes that it is not known how far along in talks, planning or pitches the possible match is, but that if everything went well, the ideal scenario would see Punk flying to Austin in order to go over ideas. One source told Fightful that, while that would be the ideal scenario, there is still a lot to get through first.

Those close to Austin have said that they’ve never heard him mention any personal issues between he and Punk that they would need to go over, and even indicated that the two drop messages to each other a couple of times a year.
