Drew McIntyre Reveals Impact Of The Rock On His WWE Career

Drew McIntyre Reveals Impact Of The Rock On His WWE Career WWE

The Rock is responsible for giving Drew McIntyre “a kick in the butt” when it comes to his WWE career, calling him “down to earth”.

In July 2019, TMZ posted a video of The Rock being asked who he saw as “the next Rock, John Cena… the next WWE superstar.”

The Rock responded that he considered Drew McIntyre as the man who has “got a great look, great build” noting that he’s “honing his craft and connecting with the audience.”

McIntyre recently spoke about The Rock and his role in the wrestling business during an interview with The Scottish Sun, saying:

“When it comes to The Rock, it’s amazing he has such a passion for our business still.

“It’s in his blood and inevitably he became one of the biggest stars of all time in our industry and then the biggest star on planet earth – and he still wants to come back to wrestling.

“It can only be a good thing because it brings so many extra eyeballs and those people become new fans – maybe they came for The Rock and stayed for Drew McIntyre.”

It appears that The Rock’s words were a pivotal moment for McIntyre who reflected on them, saying:

“I spoke to him and thanked him for putting me over in a TMZ interview.

“I wasn’t doing anything in particular, it wasn’t like I was the next one to break through.

“I was just fulfilling my role on the show and he was asked who he could see being the next breakout star and mentioned me.

“It gave me a kick in the butt. When someone like The Rock believes in you, it’s pretty cool.

“The first chance we got, I thanked him for that privately and he was appreciative of that too.”

His opinion of The Rock still remains high, with McIntyre going on to say:

“He’s remained down to earth and he’s very smart when it comes to business, and I’m very fortunate to be able to pick his brain.”

With McIntyre’s WWE contract due to expire after WrestleMania 40, it has recently been reported he is still not locked into a new deal.

He has recently discussed how Triple H’s booking of WWE shows has allowed him more creative freedom as a performer.

At WrestleMania 40, McIntyre will challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

CM Punk, the subject of much mockery from McIntyre, has revealed he will be the commentator for the match on April 7, leading to a pointed response from McIntyre.
