WWE Star Reaches Major Record After Over 40 Years

WWE star GUNTHER has now broken another major record during his historic Intercontinental Championship reign.

While GUNTHER previously became the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, the Ring General has now set a new championship record that further establishes him as the most dominant IC titleholder ever.

As of Monday (February 19), GUNTHER has held the gold for 619 days. This means that he has now officially broken Pedro Morales’ record for combined days holding the Intercontinental Championship.

Morales held the Intercontinental Title twice between 1980 and 1983, meaning that he held the title for 617 days recognised by WWE, across both reigns.

This means that GUNTHER has held the Intercontinental Title in one reign longer than any other individual has throughout their entire career.

While some sources cite Morales’ combined days figure as 619, either way, GUNTHER is there.

GUNTHER originally won the Intercontinental Championship from Ricochet on the June 10, 2022 edition of SmackDown.

Interestingly, this isn’t even GUNTHER’s longest WWE title reign, with the Ring General holding the NXT UK Championship for 870 days, winning the gold from Pete Dunne in April 2019 and dropping the title to Ilja Dragunov in August 2021.

GUNTHER is slated to defend his gold against Jey Uso on Monday’s edition of Raw.

A future feud for the current Intercontinental Champion has potentially been revealed, with GUNTHER suffering a loss at a recent house show.
