WWE had a lot of top talent jump ship to WCW during the mid-90s. Many of the names played a large role in WCW taking the top spot in wrestling. One such name who jumped ship was the 1-2-3 Kid, Sean Waltman.
On a recent edition of the X-Pac 12360 podcast, Waltman opened up about why he left WWE for WCW. The short answer is that money was bad in WWE at the time. However, Waltman revealed the real reason for leaving was not feeling creatively satisfied. Here is the quote, courtesy of Inside the Ropes:
“The money was bad at the time. But I really think if I was creatively satisfied I would have stayed, I wouldn’t have even thought about leaving. I would have just tried to, you know, keep asking for a raise, things like that. I never even thought about leaving when creative was good. Even when money was tough, or bad.”
Sean Waltman would ultimately return to WWE in 1998 under the name X-Pac. He was used in a more featured position this time around as a key member of Triple H’s DX faction.
