This week on Smackdown, WWE legend Trish Stratus made her return to the company, accepting a challenge from Charlotte Flair for a match at SummerSlam between the two multi-time Women’s Champions.
Also announced for the show this week was a clash between Dolph Ziggler and The Miz, with the two former Intercontinental Champions feuding over the past few weeks on WWE TV.
However, it has been reported that the advertised match between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler won’t be happening, with Ziggler instead facing another returning WWE Hall of Famer in Goldberg at the big event next weekend.
Over the last few weeks, Dolph Ziggler has been name-dropping Goldberg in almost all of his promos on both Raw and Smackdown.
Dave Meltzer is reporting on the Wrestling Observer Radio that the former Universal Champion will be making his return to TV this week on Monday’s Raw, the go-home episode before SummerSlam, to set up his match with Ziggler.
“Nobody’s gonna believe Dolph Ziggler’s gonna win that match and plus it’s not even gonna be announced until the Monday before.”
This will be the first time Goldberg has appeared on WWE TV since his rather woeful match with The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia at WWE Super ShowDown.
There is currently no word on how WWE will book Goldberg to replace The Miz for his match with Dolph Ziggler in Toronto.
