WWE Legend Returns On SmackDown To Manage Tag Team

A WWE legend returned to TV on tonight’s July 31 episode of WWE SmackDown emanating from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Over the past few weeks, AAA World Tag Team Champions the War Raiders have been appearing on SmackDown and stepping up to WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest and R-Truth.

Last week, a match was announced between the two teams for tonight, though originally, it was only for Priest and Truth’s WWE Tag Team Title.

However, earlier today, WWE made the announcement that it had been changed to a title vs title match, meaning the winning team would walk out with both championships.

Ultimately, there was no winning team, as they fought to a double disqualificaiton and the match was thrown out, so neither team won and they both kept hold of their respective titles.

The brawling continued after the match until a third team entered the equation – Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga.

The Tongans laid out all four men and held both the WWE and AAA Tag Team Championship belts above their heads.

They were then joined in the ring by their father, the legendary Haku, who had featured in a promo video with them a few minutes earlier, trying to get them to remember who they are – “the motherf**king Tongans.”

It’s unclear whether Haku will now be back with them weekly or if it was just for tonight, but it gives the Tongans something of a new direction after their recent split from Solo Sikoa.

WWE Needs To Be Careful With AAA Crossovers

Under the direction of The Undertaker and Jeremy Borash, AAA has been gaining momentum since the WWE acquisition that took place last year.

Understandably, WWE wants to showcase AAA talent on its mainline shows to garner some interest and hopefully convert Raw and SmackDown viewers into AAA viewers as well.

There does need to be care taken with that though, as WWE needs to make sure AAA doesn’t come out looking inferior in many of these exchanges, otherwise it tells everyone that AAA talent is a level below and therefore does more harm than good.

Rey Fenix defending the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Judgment Day‘s JD McDonagh tonight looks to be a step in the right direction, and while the War Raiders didn’t win tonight, at least they weren’t beaten.
