WWE Star Pitches ‘Different Looking Match’ Against Asuka WWE

Shayna Baszler has revealed that she’s interested in facing off against Asuka, following the Empress of Tomorrow’s character change.

Upon her return to the ring at Royal Rumble, the popular star introduced fans to her ‘new’ look, somewhat reminiscent of her pre-WWE Kana aesthetic.

Asuka has since been dominating the Raw roster on the road to WrestleMania 39.

Speaking on WWE Die Woche, Baszler noted that she’d love to face anyone at WrestleMania to have her moment on the show of shows, but then explained why her sights are set on a major singles match against Asuka:

“I’d love anyone to have a WrestleMania moment, like a big title story that everyone is drawn into. So, you know, kneejerk, I’m gonna say who has the title right now.

“I guess Damage CTRL since I’m with Ronda (Rousey) but I wouldn’t complain about a Charlotte (Flair) match or — those are already set but I’d love to be in a title match at WrestleMania.

“All that being said, you know, we talk about ring styles and stuff, I think that Asuka and I could put on a different looking match than anybody else.

“Her coach, for people that don’t know, and Billy (Robinson) both trained under (Karl) Gotch so we kind of come from the same family tree so I think our toolbox of things we could use on each other, we’d have to dig a little deeper in there than we would against anyone else. I think it’d be great.”

Baszler and Asuka have faced off twice in singles action on WWE Raw, once in 2020, and again in 2021. The duo also battled it out as the final two of the women’s Elimination Chamber match at the 2020 event, in which Baszler ultimately prevailed.

Asuka won this year’s Elimination Chamber match, earning herself a shot at Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Title at WrestleMania 39.
