Another Raw star has reacted to CM Punk winning the Undisputed WWE Championship, stating that now-former champion Sami Zayn was “robbed”.

The July 6 episode of WWE Raw saw The Vision recapture the World Tag Team Championship, with Maxxine Dupri celebrating while wrapped around Austin Theory.

Elsewhere on the show, Sami Zayn’s time as Undisputed WWE Champion would come to an end as the returning CM Punk would walk away with the title.

With a nine-day reign now at an end, Becky Lynch has reacted to Zayn’s loss in a post on Twitter, sharing:

“SAMI WAS ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Having only captured the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions on June 27 with a victory over Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER, it appeared that a rematch was in order after The American Nightmare defeated Jey Uso to be the number one contender on last week’s SmackDown.

WWE Raw would see Rhodes felled by an attack at the hands of GUNTHER, leading to Punk replacing him in the main event.

A Missed Opportunity?

Nine days. It took just nine days for Sami Zayn to win and lose his first Undisputed WWE Championship, a title he captured in a territory that has given the star a warm welcome in recent years.

A transitional champion between Rhodes and Punk, it could be argued that Zayn’s reign is a missed opportunity to build something bigger, particularly with SummerSlam so close, despite the looming presence of GUNTHER on the title picture.

Even if WWE SummerSlam had given us a Triple Threat between Zayn, Rhodes and GUNTHER or a four-way match with CM Punk, it just feels that there was more opportunity to tell more story going up to the August 1 & 2 Premium Live Event and it’s curious that such an opportunity wasn’t exploited.

Zayn remains a beloved star on the WWE roster and has held titles previously, being a Grand Slam Champion in his own right, yet that adoration wasn’t enough to give him a longer reign with the top championship, knowing that it wasn’t going to be forever.

GUNTHER clearly still covets the Undisputed WWE Championship, Rhodes will no doubt get another crack at the title, and CM Punk will continue to mark his territory as the new champion. It’s Zayn, however, who should perhaps find a way back to the top.
