WWE
WWE has now officially removed the NXT Heritage Cup from being listed as a current championship in the company.
The last holder of the NXT Heritage Cup was Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo, and the trophy itself hasn’t been seen since it was thrown off a bridge by Tony D’Angelo at the Great American Bash last year.
However, Stacks remained listed as champion on the official WWE roster page until today when the title was entirely removed from the list of current champions.
The Heritage Cup was first introduced in NXT UK in 2020, with A-Kid (Axiom) becoming the first holder with a win against Trent Seven.
Upon the closure of NXT UK, the trophy was brought over to the US by Noam Dar, who has held it the most times overall with four reigns.
Rebuilding The NXT Tag Team Division
The WWE NXT women’s division has been a standout division for years now, and the men’s singles division has been in a rebuilding phase after all the call-ups that have happened this year.
That leaves the tag team division, which could do with some rebuilding of its own.
The current NXT Tag Team Champions, Vanity Project, are doing a great job, but the fact they became champions immediately after debuting goes to show the depth the division was and still is lacking.
Hank Walker & Tank Ledger cooled off dramatically after their title reign last year and haven’t really been featured much on TV over the past few months.
OTM were in a similar position, but it looks like they’re starting to become TV regulars again, this time as babyfaces, which could make them good challengers for Vanity Project going forward.
That just leaves different combinations of Birthright and the new-look DarkState without Saquon Shugars as the other teams in the division, since it looks like The Culling’s days could be numbered as well.
The main roster tag divisions are somewhat lacking right now, and there aren’t really any signs that NXT is focusing on building it up for the future, so maybe the priority will shift some time soon to cultivate some new teams.
