The brother of a WWE name has opened up about living in his shadow and the impact of their time under contract.
Sam Adonis the brother of WWE’s Corey Graves and spent ten months under a WWE developmental contract.
Speaking to Wrestling Epicenter, Adonis addressed how his short run under WWE benefited his career, saying:
“I was the young kid that was so obsessed and got lucky and caught a break and got signed.
“If that didn’t happen, the doors that have opened since then wouldn’t have opened.
“I was able to get a job in Europe for All Star Wrestling, I was able to be taken seriously in Mexico with CMLL.
“All of that came from that stamp of approval that was the ten months under contract with WWE.”
Adonis would say that, following his release from WWE, he realised how much he still had to learn and that he hasn’t stopped to this day.
Whilst he thought was a “good, young wrestler”, he realizes how far he has come from those early days, adding:
“The best is yet to come and it all comes from the natural progression of what happened in the past.”
Adonis would go on to discuss his efforts to no longer been seen as “Corey Graves’ brother”, saying:
“There’s always going to be people who discredit what I do, but – and it’s going to sound terrible – but my opportunities weren’t given to me by my brother.
“If my brother were in my shoes, I don’t know that he’d be able to get those opportunities.”
He would conclude by saying that he would be open to the idea of returning to WWE, stating:
“If you’re not aiming for the top of the ladder, you shouldn’t be on the ladder at all.”
Since his release from his developmental contract in 2011, Adonis has gone on to perform around the world, including All Star Wrestling, CMLL and All Japan Pro Wrestling.
