WWE Set To Unify Two Championships

WWE is seemingly set to unify two of it’s championship titles at the upcoming NXT Heatwave premium live event.

In recent weeks, Wren Sinclair and Zaria have begun having some issues stemming over Wren’s Women’s Speed Championship, and Zaria’s quest to win the title due to it’s affiliation with Sol Ruca.

Zaria challenged Wren for the Speed Championship last week, which Wren would win due to the five minute time limit expiring, which earned her a shot at Zaria’s Women’s North American Championship on tonight’s show.

On the show, Zaria would retain the Women’s North American Championship over Wren after a brawl between Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox spilled out to ringside, which distracted Wren.

WWE To Unify Women’s North American & Women’s Speed Championships

Later in the night, Wren spoke to Robert Stone backstage and asked for a rematch against Zaria, this time offering for the match to be a unification match, which Stone made official for NXT Heatwave.

WWE made sure to use the word ‘unification’ during the segment, which would seem to imply the Speed Championship will be retired after Heatwave, rather than the winner carrying both titles like Sol Ruca did last year.

The Men’s Speed Championship is currently held by Lexis King of Birthright, with him wearing the title to the ring for his match on the show against Lucien Price.

It was later announced that King would defend the Speed Championship against Price next week on NXT, so it seems that at least for now the Men’s title will be sticking around.

WWE Speed Is The Company’s Latest Short-Lived Project

The WWE Speed Championships were initially introduced back in 2024, with them initially exclusively defended on Twitter, who had reached an agreement with WWE to air three minute matches on the platform.

A year later, the deal between WWE and Twitter came to an end, with the Speed titles instead being moved to the NXT brand, serving as a gimmicky second midcard championship, keeping the time limits in place.

With the unification match now announced, it seems as though the days of WWE Speed are numbered, with the titles set to be a largely forgotten relic of the modern WWE era, joining things like the 24/7 Championship and the NXT Heritage Cup, which was also recently officially retired.
