WWE
An AEW star has pitched the possibility of Sheamus reuniting with Claudio Castagnoli to reform their WWE team team, The Bar.
It was recently reported that Sheamus had parted ways with WWE after turning down an offer to restructure his contract.
With the future of the star uncertain, Jim Ross was recently asked whether he’d like to see Sheamus signed to AEW.
Speaking on Grilling JR, Ross would share his praise of Sheamus, hoping to see him reunite with his former tag team partner, Cesaro, saying:
“Well, I think putting him back together with Cesaro is a good thing, if that happens. It’ll create a real strong team to make your tag team division stronger.
“He’s a good hand, he really is. He’s a good hand. He’s a good guy. I don’t know why you’d have any issues bringing him back into the fold. He’s a team player. He’s big, physical.
“The combination of him and Cesaro interests me a great deal
“So, we’ll have to wait and see. It’s one of those time will tell deals, which is not a bad thing. Keeps you turned in and stay tuned
“I hope that he lands on his feet wherever he goes, but I’d like to personally be able to call some of his matches someday.
“I hope that he signs with AEW on some sort of contract, even if it’s a limited engagement where he’s not working every single time the lights come on, he’s there. I’m not for anybody having to do that.
“I’m looking forward to seeing where he lands. He’s got a lot of gas in the tank. He’s smart.”

Cesaro and Sheamus formed The Bar in 2016, going on to become SmackDown Tag Team Champions and four-time Raw Tag Team Champions.
Now signed to AEW and known as Claudio Castagnoli, the former Cesaro parted ways with WWE in 2022, after contract negotiations saw neither party able to come to terms.

The Right Fit
Whenever a WWE star gets released, it’s become a trope in online discussions that AEW should sign them, but it’s often not just as easy as picking up the phone and making the deal.
In many cases, chances are that overtures have been made to gauge interest in any particular star, especially when contracts are coming up. It doesn’t even have to be a formal approach, just a ‘feeling out’ process involving the right questions in the right place.
For Sheamus, the backstage reaction over in AEW over him potentially joining the company was recently revealed. The report notes that while the star is liked, there were questions over the rationale of bringing him under contract, with a feeling of “We’re gonna hire another 48-year-old?”
It seems like a shoo-in, of course, bringing in a recognizable star to bolster the roster, but with the New Day likely AEW-bound, as Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observe Live goes on to state: “…that’s three more slots that people who have been there for a long time or who should be on the way up, they’re gonna be iced out again.”
And, there’s the real issue. AEW currently has limited television time across Dynamite and Collision, so adding more stars, even those of the caliber of former WWE names, takes away from an already stacked roster.
