‘If I Can Be Brutally Honest…’: WWE Star Addresses Aftermath Of Sami Zayn Losing Undisputed WWE Championship To CM Punk

With Sami Zayn having lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to CM Punk, a fellow star has addressed what they hope to see in their future.

Night of Champions on June 27 saw Sami Zayn claim the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes in a Triple Threat match that also featured GUNTHER.

Fast forward to just nine days later and Zayn would defend the title against a returning CM Punk after Rhodes was rendered unable to compete by GUNTHER on the July 6 episode of WWE Raw, bringing an end to the short title reign.

During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Nattie reflected on the title change and what it could bring to the future for both Zayn and Punk, saying:

“You might disagree with me, but I actually think that Sami is gonna come out of this as a massive, massive babyface.

“Remember when the fans were booing Sami when he was getting ready to wrestle Trick (Williams), and everybody was kinda turning on him? Well, as soon as our fans can turn on someone, they can get behind someone.

“People feel like Sami was screwed. That he didn’t have the title for what… Ten days?

“I don’t know, It feels like it could spark something really, really cool for Sami.

“If I could be brutally honest, what I like about CM Punk is that some people love him, some people hate him, but whatever it is about him, you want to watch him.

“My favorite version of him is when he was a heel. I loved CM Punk as a heel with Paul Heyman.

“What I would personally love to see is heel CM Punk and Sami Zayn fighting and scratching and clawing his way back to what he lost.”

Addressing his loss, Zayn gave an emotional response, declaring “that motherf**ker, he has no business, no business!” and sharing his fury at the idea of Punk returning and being granted a shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship.

The Biggest Party Of The Summer Goes Punk

For the third consecutive year since his WWE return, CM Punk will be in action at SummerSlam on August 1 & 2.

Last year’s event saw CM Punk defeat GUNTHER to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion, only to lose that title moments later when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity. Rollins had also played a part in Punk’s match at SummerSlam 2024, serving as referee in a match that saw Drew McIntyre victorious.

This year, Rollins faces Roman Reigns, with The OTC holding the World Heavyweight Championship, while plans for Punk are yet to be officially announced.

It would be unusual, on a two-night show, to not have both world championships on the line, so it would make sense that Punk would defend his title, possibly in the main event on either August 1 or 2.

WWE could very much be building up to a rematch between Zayn and Punk, particularly with both assigned to the SmackDown roster. The title change may have taken place on Raw, but it has since been confirmed that Punk is heading to the Friday night show on July 10. Of course, that makes sense, given that the Undisputed WWE Championship is a SmackDown title, alongside its counterpart, the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw.

As Nattie notes, Punk is a star that many fans “want to watch”, and that’s likely to continue in his current title reign, particularly if Zayn does get an opportunity to pursue the man who took the title from him.
