A rising WWE star has said they will become “the bridge” between WWE and a top international promotion ahead of a rare upcoming crossover match.
On Wednesday, January 3 NXT star Charlie Dempsey will make the trip overseas to compete for All Japan Pro Wrestling’s Triple Crown Championship against Katsuhiko Nakajima.
Dempsey was announced to be competing for the title by his father William Regal in a video posted to AJPW’s Twitter account.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports ahead of the match with Nakajima, Dempsey spoke of potentially becoming the first WWE star to win the AJPW Triple Crown Championship.
Dempsey first explained what advice his father had given him beforehand, before explaining how a victory could be bigger than just personal glory.:
“Trust your senses and go out there and fight,”
“If I win, I will become the first WWE athlete to win the Triple Crown. So I will definitely win, bring the belt home, and show it off in the NXT ring.
“I will be the bridge between the two organizations.”
While Dempsey’s big opportunity still lies ahead of him, he has already gotten his feet wet in Japan, making his debut for AJPW at the organisation’s AJPW Mania X on December 31; competing alongside Yuma Anzai against the team of LEONA and the legendary Tatsumi Fujinami.
Make sure to stay locked to WrestleTalk to find out how Dempsey does in this massive opportunity on December 3.
