WWE Star Worried Fans Would Turn On Him After Big Push WWE

A WWE star has spoken of their worry that fans would turn on him following their big push to the main event scene.

Ahead of WrestleMania 39, the natural fan support for LA Knight began to become apparent on WWE TV, with fans booing heavily when Knight was eliminated from the Andre The Giant Battle Royal on the March 31, 2023 episode of SmackDown.

This momentum carried through the rest of the year, with Knight becoming one of the company’s highest merchandise sellers and solidifying himself as one of SmackDown’s marquee names.

The year closed out with Knight teaming with John Cena at Fastlane against Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso, before main eventing Crown Jewel 2023 against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Despite the fans fuelling Knight’s push however, there were some reservations from the 41-year-old that maybe his ascent to the main event was coming too soon for the audience, and could potentially result in them turning on him.

Speaking to Bully Ray on Busted Open Radio, Knight explained:

“There’s so many different ways to look at that (Bully Ray’s assessment that maybe Knight is ‘sick & tired’ of being put on the backburner & not getting the push he deserves)…

“Maybe there was a little too far of a push a little too fast and that’s not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but a little bit of a steady build going into a championship match or something like that.

“As far as going to the U.S. Championship or the Intercontinental Championship or something like that but jumping straight into the WWE Championship back at Crown Jewel was a little fast to where I almost worried that it might make people go, ah! They’re not gonna do this?

“They’re not gonna shove him down our throat like this? Are they? Because there is that potential. At the same time, right now, I think I’m in a damn good spot… I don’t know if I’m selling myself short so much as I’m just cautiously optimistic.”

Following his breakout year in 2023, Knight will find his reward with a coveted singles match on the WrestleMania 40 match card, when he takes on AJ Styles.

There has been a curious update on Styles’ schedule heading into the Grandest Stage of Them All, follow this link for full details.
