WWE Hall Of Famer Sting’s Son Garrett Borden Wins Debut Wrestling Match, Hits Stinger Splash

Garrett Borden, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Sting, used his father’s Stinger Splash en route to winning his debut match.

Debuting at Rhodes Wrestling Association on Sunday, 17 May, Garrett Borden faced Brandon Barretta at their Final Reckoning show.

The match would mark the in-ring debut for the son of a legendary star, with Garrett Borden’s brother, Steven, also pursuing a wrestling career.

Garrett Borden would see victory in his match against Barretta, with a Stinger Splash playing into proceedings.

Both the Borden brothers accompanied their father to the ring during his final match at AEW Revolution in March 2024, with Garrett portraying the surfer era of his father and Steven as the nWo Wolfpac incarnation of the star.

A Remarkable Legacy Continues

The legacy of Sting is undeniable. A franchise player in WCW, the star would go on to a short run in WWE, suffering a legitimate neck injury at Night of Champions in 2015.

A WWE Hall of Fame induction would follow in 2016, although it seemed like Sting’s in-ring career as a full-time performer was very much at an end until AEW came calling.

Signing to a multi-year contract and making his AEW debut in December 2020, the star was reborn, teaming with Darby Allin and engaging in high-profile feuds that would see him retire, for a second time, as World Tag Team Champion.

His relationship with AEW continues to this day, with Tony Khan having clearly demonstrated his love of the legendary star and interest in nurturing the next generation of the Sting lineage.

For both brothers, a future in their father’s footsteps could be seen as a daunting prospect, but there’s certainly the potential for either of them to shine while still paying tribute to the star who paved the path that they now walk.

Second generation stars in their own right, there’s the potential for both men to carve out their own niche in the same way that Dominik Mysterio has over in WWE. Very much tied to his father’s legacy, Dominik Mysterio has become a star in his own right, showcasing his own talents and strengths in a way that Garrett and Steven could very much emulate when the opportunity arises.

Standing in the shadow of a mighty monolith such as Sting (or Rey Mysterio) may seem like a limiting factor, but with the right guidance and opportunity, Garrett and Steven stand every chance of stepping out and becoming stars in their own right.
