At the start of 2025, Penta signed with WWE and has since become one of the company’s most popular babyfaces.

After picking up wins and establishing himself on the roster, Penta was able to reach new heights.

In March 2026, Penta defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

For the next 153 days, the masked luchador fought a who’s who of challengers for the title.

From Ethan Page and Je’Von Evans to Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee, Penta proved himself to be a fighting champion and having everything needed to be a main event player.

Following his IC Title loss to Chad Gable at SummerSlam 2026, Penta already has a new goal to win the number one contender’s tournament to earn a shot at Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship in his home country of Mexico.

With a potential title bout looming on September 14 in Mexico City, fans are wondering if Penta has any chance to become a world champion when he faces “The OTC” in a few weeks time.

Can Penta win the big one against Roman Reigns?

Back at WWE Royal Rumble 2025, Penta stepped in the squared circle for the first time with Roman Reigns as part of the Men’s Royal Rumble Match.

During this bout, Penta worked together with Reigns, who seemed impressed with WWE’s newest star at the time.

The Roman Reigns that Penta will step in the ring with if he wins this tournament is much different from the one he faced in the 2025 Rumble.

Reigns has reformed The Bloodline with The Usos and Jacob Fatu by his side and started to show his more manipulative side of his personality again.

Recent reports have indicated that Roman Reigns is internally listed as a heel once again.

Now with his alignment intact, Reigns will not be shy from using the help of The Bloodline if he defends his title against Penta on the September 14 WWE Raw.

Considering Penta recently turned down an offer to join Perros Del Mal, it feels like Penta will be outnumbered by Reigns and The Bloodline if he wins the tournament.

However, this potential title bout on September 14 might just be the first of more opportunities for Penta to reach the mountaintop.

Can Penta one day win the world title?

Since signing with WWE, it has been clear that the company sees big things in Penta’s future.

There have been comparisons from Penta’s current push to that of Rey Mysterio’s in the 2000s.

With his charisma, presentation and in-ring ability, Penta checks every box necessary to be a top star in WWE.

Winning the number one contender’s tournament should be the first indication that WWE sees Penta as a key player for the future.

The connection that Penta has with the audience and everything he has achieved in WWE thus far makes everyone believe that there are greater heights for the luchador to achieve down the road.

While this title match with Reigns most likely will not go his way, it feels like a foregone conclusion that Penta should one day win a world title.

Whether it takes a few months or even years, it will not be surprising to see Penta get his hands on the Undisputed WWE or World Heavyweight Championship sometime in the near future.
