The WWE tag team division has seen many highs and lows over the years.
However, 2026 has been one of those years where tag team wrestling has been put on the backburner.
While The Vanity Project have established themselves on WWE NXT, the Raw and SmackDown tag scenes have not been in the best shape.
From lack of TV time to WWE releases, the tag team division has been through the ringer.

On Monday Night Raw, The Vision have dominated the World Tag Team Championship picture with two reigns this year.
Then on SmackDown, R-Truth and Damian Priest had an over four month reign until they were dethroned by the same team they beat back in March in The MFTs.
This has led to recent reports indicating that the company will be looking to create new pairings from within their roster.
It seems that this could all lead to the long awaited Lucha Brothers reunion in WWE.
Are The Lucha Brothers enough to revive the WWE tag team scene?
Penta and Rey Fenix made their WWE debuts in 2025, but the two brothers and former AEW World Tag Team Champions were kept separate on Raw and SmackDown.
This has led many fans to wonder when WWE might reunite Penta and Fenix again.
Reuniting the Lucha Brothers has been an ace in the hole for WWE over the past two years now.
Despite being kept separate, both men has gotten success with Penta being a former Intercontinental Champion and Fenix being the current AAA World Cruiserweight Champion.

However, there have been teases that the long anticipated reunion may be coming soon.
Over the past few weeks, there has been a tournament to determine the number one contender for Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Since the bracket was revealed, fans have been calling for Penta to face his brother in the finals.

In a digital exclusive following the August 17 WWE Raw, Penta and Fenix talked about potentially facing one another in the tournament.
In what should be an awe-inspiring clash, Penta and Fenix will see who is the better Lucha Brother is here.
While this bout could offer some strain to their relationship, Penta and Fenix have shown themselves to be stronger after battling one another in the past and could do that yet again.
After their World Heavyweight Title match, whoever wins the tournament could want to recapture that magic with their brother.
Penta reuniting with Fenix feels like an intriguing story that could garner some interest from the fans.
Then once they are back together, The Lucha Brothers have shown themselves to be one of the best tag teams of their generation.
Offering some showstealers against Street Profits, Fraxiom and The War Raiders, Penta and Fenix could easily find themselves recognized as the top duo in WWE before long.
Considering their recent singles success, The Lucha Brothers can figure what they are now after all this time.
Based on the story potential of their reunion and the match quality once they are back together, The Lucha Brothers could be the key to revitalizing the WWE tag team division before the end of 2026.
