A new WWE star officially signed his contract on tonight’s August 18 episode of NXT live from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
The conclusion of last week’s NXT saw Zilla Fatu – the son of the legendary Umaga – interfere in the main event match between Cruz Montana and Grayson Waller, attacking both men.
Montana vs Waller was supposed to determine the challenger for NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo at the upcoming WWE NXT Heatwave premium live event.
Ahead of tonight’s show, NXT General Manager Robert Stone invited Fatu to sign his official contract with the brand.
The show opened with Montana in the ring calling out Fatu before he was informed that Fatu hadn’t arrived at the PC yet – at which point Montana decided to head out to the parking lot to wait for him.
Later in the show, Waller also called out Fatu, but he was interrupted by both D’Angelo and Montana before Stone came out to set the record straight.
Stone declared that Heatwave would play host to a three-way NXT Title match between D’Angelo, Waller and Montana, while Fatu’s status would be handled by Stone later.
At the end of the show, Stone brought Fatu out to the ring to sign the contract, and D’Angelo was up on the PC platform watching on.
As Waller and Montana also came out and had to be held back by security, Stone made an announcement regarding Fatu’s contract.
It turns out the contract, which he of course signed, includes a clause that states Fatu’s first match in WWE has to be a championship match – and thus, Stone added him to the match at Heatwave.
So Heatwave is now a four-way with D’Angelo defending the NXT Championship against all three of Fatu, Waller and Montana.
The Most Likely Success Stories From NXT
The current WWE NXT roster is filled with plenty of potential main roster talents, but not all of them are going to go on to main event WrestleMania or be serious top level stars.
It’s no secret that the women’s roster has pulled away from the men’s roster in a big way over the past few years, with the likes of Kendal Grey, Lola Vice, Jaida Parker and Izzi Dame all candidates to go on and become top level names on the main roster.
Even outside of those more obvious names, there’s major strength in depth with the likes of Thea Hail, Karmen Petrovic, Wren Sinclair, Zaria, Kelani Jordan and Lizzy Rain – any of those could break out on the main roster in a way they haven’t done in NXT.
As for the men, the field is much more limited, but the newly arrived Zilla Fatu has to be a top candidate right now due to his affiliation with The Bloodline.
Cruz Montana and Tony D’Angelo are possibilities as well, but you do look at the top level of the main roster and wonder if they’ll ever make it to that tier – the likes of Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, etc.
Dark horses include Myles Borne, Jackson Drake, Tavion Heights, Keanu Carver, Mason Rook, Shiloh Hill and Tristan Angels but they haven’t quite made it to the top of NXT yet.
