WWE Raw Star Says He Didn’t Feel Ready For Main Roster Call-Up: ‘I Wanted To Learn How To Carry A Company In NXT’

WWE Raw star Je’Von Evans has opened up about his main roster debut, noting that he didn’t feel ready for his call-up at the time.

After signing with WWE in November 2023, Je’Von Evans made his NXT debut on the April 9, 2024 episode.

He made his main roster debut in November 2025, as part of the John Cena Last Time Is Now tournament. After several sporadic main roster appearances, Evans officially signed with the Raw brand this past January.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Je’Von Evans noted that there was more he wanted to do on NXT before he was moved up to Raw.

When asked if he felt ready for his move to the main roster, Evans responded:

“No, no, not at all. Because I wanted to learn in NXT. Of course, I wanted to defeat Oba for the title, but I wanted to learn how to carry a company in NXT. I wanted to be ‘the guy.’

“It’s just gonna happen. I’m gonna work towards it, but I know that one day I’m gonna be the guy in WWE. So I feel like if I were to learn how to carry a brand, and worry about views and in tickets and stuff like that.

“If I were to learn that in NXT, then when I get to that moment, get to that spot here in the main roster, then I know how to do it and what to do.”

Je’Von Evans was one of several NXT stars who were officially moved to the main roster at the beginning of the year, including Trick Williams and Oba Femi.

With Williams previously holding the US Championship, and Oba Femi winning his series against Brock Lesnar 2-1, Evans is arguably the least accomplished of that wave of call-ups, having not won a traditional championship on NXT or the main roster.

Evans recently noted that he’s “locked in and focused” on becoming the youngest holder of the Intercontinental Championship, and the youngest world champion in WWE history.

At 22 years old, Evans would have a year to break Jeff Hardy’s IC Title record, with Hardy becoming champion at age 23.

Randy Orton currently holds the record for being the youngest world champion in WWE history, being 24 when he won the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time.
