Will Ospreay has praised a backstage AEW team, sharing an insight into what they do for him as an on-screen talent.

A recent episode of YMH Studios IAN DO took a behind-the-scenes look at AEW production, with Ian Fidance getting involved in all aspects of the process.

Part of Fidance’s behind-the-scenes journey saw him in the wardrobe department, speaking to Chris Estell, head wardrobe artist for AEW.

With Estell revealing that stars come to them with an idea that they turn into a reality, it was revealed that AEW stars occasionally turn up with “last minute” requests, leading to Fidance helping to create a jacket for Josh Woods.

Will Ospreay would give a shout out to Estell and his team for their commitment, revealing that they make an elbow pad for the star to throw every week, tweeting:

“Would love to take a moment to give Chris & his team his flowers.

“Every week he makes me an elbow pad to throw out to the audience and always makes time to correct pieces I bring to him as well as full outfits like the Bane costume.

Ospreay appeared in his Bane-themed ring attire at AEW Forbidden Door in June of this year, sporting a tactical jacket and mask modelled after the Batman villain’s costume.

The June 28 pay-per-view saw Ospreay defeat Swerve Strickland in the final of the men’s Owen Hart Cup, securing a World Championship match at AEW All In: London on August 30.

Looking The Part

For many wrestling stars, wherever they appear, their entrance is just as important as their in-ring work when it comes to demonstrating their talents to the audience, be they at home or in the venue itself.

Music, naturally, plays a part in all that is to come, but so does the way that the star looks, not just physically, with ring wear being just as important.

For some stars, they have the option of multiple outfits, with some specifically designed for certain occasions, such as an AEW pay-per-view, as was the case with Ospreay and his Bane gear.

Ospreay has previously revealed the cost of ring jackets, revealing that his Assassin’s Creed-themed ones have cost him “like two grand a pop”, while one that he wore at a past Forbidden Door was “10k“.

For some stars, frequently changing their appearance has been a fundamental part of their character, with WWE’s Seth Rollins reflecting on his increasingly wild looks and the gear that came with them in past comments. While he did not reveal the cost for each design, the fact they were the work of a fashion designer suggests they didn’t come at a budget-friendly price.

For some stars, they have the ability to make their own ring gear, with Sol Ruca revealing she did that for her Royal Rumble appearance this year. Ruca would reveal that it wasn’t a straightforward experience, despite it being something she has done previously.

AEW isn’t alone in having its own wardrobe department, with WWE also having a service that covers everything from ring gear to emergency repairs and alterations.

With both companies operating in a fast-paced, television environment, it isn’t a surprise that stars such as Ospreay would offer praise for realizing their vision so effectively.
