Current Champions Reunite Tag-Team After WWE SmackDown

Two WWE stars reunited in the ring following Friday Night SmackDown, wrestling their first tag-team match together for the company.

With Penta joining WWE in January 2025 and Rey Fenix making his debut for the company that April, there has been a lot of speculation since then about a Lucha Brothers WWE in-ring reunion.

With the duo previously teasing sharing the ring for a match in AAA, Penta and Fenix have now teamed up for the first time in WWE, in a non-televised dark match.

Following the July 31 SmackDown live broadcast,  Penta met Dominik Mysterio in singles action, however this bout ended prematurely after JD McDonagh attacked the Intercontinental Champion.

This led to Rey Fenix making the save, taking out Mysterio and McDonagh before embracing his brother.

A tag-team match then took place, with Penta and Rey Fenix defeating JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio.

This match marked the first time Penta and Fenix have teamed up in a WWE ring, and has fuelled speculation that we soon see this pairing make its WWE TV debut.

With the Lucha Brothers having held tag team gold together in companies such as AEW, AAA (pre-WWE acquisition), PWG, ROH and TNA Wrestling, the decision to keep both stars away from each other for so long has left some fans scratching their heads.

While Penta has been pushed as a top prospect on Raw since his arrival, Rey Fenix definitely would have benefitted from a Lucha Bros reunion earlier, with things only really picking up for him on WWE TV recently, following his AAA World Cruiserweight Championship win in May.

Penta had stated on many occasions – as recently as mid-July – that the Lucha Brothers would reunite at some point. If Penta loses the Intercontinental Championship to Chad Gable at SummerSlam, the stage could be set for the duo to come together, with Penta able to turn his attention to the tag-team division.
