Jeff Cobb – fka JC Mateo – has reflected on his WWE run following his release in May, sharing his honest thoughts on his time with the company.
Jeff Cobb was reported to be departing WWE during the April/May talent cuts, just days shy of the one-year anniversary of his debut at Backlash 2025.
Speaking with Denise Salcedo, Cobb admitted that his WWE run could’ve went better, but noted that he had fun while with the company.
Jeff Cobb said:
“I’m not gonna lie and say everything is all bright and rosy. I grew up as a WWF fan, Hulk Hogan brought me into wrestling. Seeing him was awesome, I was like ‘That’s what I’ve got to do.’
“That’s my dream job, and it’s not everything that I thought it would be, but who am I to complain? It’s not my company. But being able to say I was sought after, saying no to them four times, and then saying yes on the fifth, it’s a cool little notch on my belt to say that, coming in on my terms.
“It could’ve gone better, there are so many people I could blame, but I’m not gonna do that. I’ve just got to be happy about my time there. I did take a lot of good things away from that, like a lot of great friends that I still keep in contact with.
“A lot of people I knew prior, like on the indies and in New Japan, and getting closer with them because I was seeing them every week. It was great, I had a fun time while I was there.
“Could things have gone in a better direction? Of course, but my time there, my experiences, I will always cherish them.”

Previous reports indicated that WWE initially had plans for a big push for Jeff Cobb, with singles feuds against “key people” which ultimately never ended up happening.
With even AJ Styles previously stating that he doesn’t understand why WWE released Cobb, all eyes will be on the star to see what he does next.
