AEW
A WWE Hall of Famer has confirmed that they won’t return to the company for a retirement angle, opting to see out his career in AEW.
Known to WWE fans as Edge, Adam Copeland has been an AEW star since October 2023 and sees his career ending in that very company.
During a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Copeland was asked if he plans to retire in AEW, saying:
“Yes. Yep. That’s where I want to retire.
“And, I know that may disappoint a lot of people, but I really love it there.
“I love the company. I love the exuberance. I love the drive. I love the excitement that I see in the locker room.
“Yeah, I don’t want to go anywhere else. I’m good.”

Looking at his time in WWE, Copeland would indicate that both sides got all they could out of the star, stating:
“You know, I did everything I could do there and then some. And, again, I think they got everything they could out of me and then some.”

A WWE Grand Slam Champion, Copeland’s tenure in AEW currently sees him as World Tag Team Champion alongside Christian Cage, with the star also having also been a two-time TNT Champion.
AEW All In: London on August 30 will see Cage and Cope put the World Tag Team Championship on the line against The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) in the iconic Wembley Stadium.
No More Edge
Copeland stating that he wants to retire in AEW comes off the back of recent comments the star made when it comes to a potential timeline for the end of his career.
For the star, while discussing that timeline, he identified a number of fellow roster members that he would still like to mix it up with, including Will Ospreay, Samoa Joe and Kyle Fletcher.
It likely does come as a disappointment to some WWE fans that Edge won’t retire in the company that first signed him back in the late 90s, particularly given the importance to multiple eras of the television product. That said, the star opted to leave the company after his contract expired in September 2023, seeing an opportunity elsewhere under the leadership of Tony Khan.
If WWE really did get everything out of the star, and Copeland feels he did everything he could, there’s arguably little to be gained by a return that couldn’t be achieved in AEW.
