Trinity Fatu has revealed the celebrity origins of her WWE character and the scrapped original plans for Naomi.
Fatu signed with WWE in August 2009 and featured in Florida Championship Wrestling before it was rebranded as NXT.
She would make her main roster debut in January 2012 alongside Cameron (Ariane Andrew) as The Funkadactyls with Brodus Clay.
Speaking with Schön! Magazine about the origins of Naomi, Fatu revealed:
“I couldn’t use my real name in the WWE, so Naomi was the name I selected because of the iconic supermodel.
“I had this character idea at the time of being this knockoff Naomi Campbell wanna-be which never happened.
“I now wrestle as Trinity which is my real name and I’m loving that.”
She would also reveal the start of her wrestling career and how it’s progressed saying:
“I started out as an Orlando Magic Dancer, then I went to a try out for wrestling, got signed, and married a wrestler.
“Now, a decade later, I’m still here happy and doing what I love with my husband, although we wrestle in 2 different companies now.”
Trinity Fatu married Jimmy Uso in January 2014.
In May 2022, Fatu and the former Sasha Banks walked out of WWE during an episode of Raw, which ended up spelling the end of both of their WWE tenures.
Banks has gone on to become Mercedes Mone in NJPW, with Fatu making her IMPACT Wrestling debut in April 2023.
