Report: Whose Idea Was Will Ospreay Referencing Triple H On AEW Dynamite AEW/WWE

On the April 10 episode of AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay fired a shot at WWE’s Triple H over comments about “the grind.”

UPDATE: Fightful Select is now reporting that the line was not Tony Khan’s idea, and came from Ospreay himself, which you can read more about here (subscription required).

On the Pat McAfee Show on April 5, 2024, ahead of WrestleMania 40, Triple H seemingly took a shot at Ospreay saying:

“If they’re not here to be all in on this – like, when I see people that come out of trying to make it and then they pick the job where they go, ‘Well, they work less, the schedule’s lighter’.”

Ospreay had previously revealed his reasons for choosing AEW over WWE, citing his “main priority was to stay in the UK” among them.

With comments about “the grind” making their way into Ospreay’s Dynamite promo, he would fire a brutal shot at Triple H saying the WWE executive had been “grinding on the boss’s daughter.

Wade Keller discussed the origins of the promo during his PW Torch VIP show, saying:

“They also had Will Ospreay go on camera, interviewed by Renee Paquette on the stage.

“The first part of his promo was him addressing a comment that Triple H said on the podcast [that was] alluding to Will Ospreay being someone who didn’t want to be part of the grind.

“I’m also told that this was an idea presented to Ospreay. I don’t know about Ospreay’s enthusiasm for or against it but it wasn’t something he did on his own. He didn’t wing it.

“It was something that hours before the interview took place, was proposed to him. That’s what I’m hearing from AEW.”

Discussing the Young Bucks segment featuring footage from CM Punk and Jack Perry’s AEW All In altercation, Keller revealed that Matthew and Nicholas Jackson were not “in favor” of doing the segment.

The idea was confirmed as being driven by Tony Khan who “wanted this out there.”

Earlier today, it was reported by Dave Meltzer that there was backstage “frustration” in AEW over Tony Khan’s decision to air the footage.

Keller seemingly backed this up and said he hasn’t heard of anyone who was in favor of the decision, and morale in the company “isn’t great” as a result.

Following the broadcast, Matthew & Nicholas Jackson responded on Twitter, referring to themselves as “EVPetty“.

CM Punk has also reacted to the footage being shown on AEW Dynamite in typical Punk fashion.

Elsewhere around the internet, several WWE stars have reacted to the segment including Cedric Alexander, Corey Graves and Shawn Spears.

We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
