Vince McMahon has changed his stance on what would be a major change to the WWE presentation of its product.
While WWE shows including Premium Live Events and even matches have seen corporate advertising and sponsorship, an area that hasn’t been touched has been the ring.
A common feature in boxing and mixed martial arts, it appears WWE could be making the change in the future.
Reflecting on the TKO Group earnings call, Dave Meltzer revealed, in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that:
Another change you can expect is the look of the ringside area. In the past, Vince McMahon was a proponent of a clean ring, meaning no advertising on the mats, the barricades, or around the ring. Obviously that has changed due to the influence of Nick Khan.
They noted that Vince is no longer thinking that way and that advertising in and around the ring will be opening up more advertising inventory and they are very happy McMahon agreed to it.
Vince McMahon’s authority over WWE under TKO has been reportedly ‘marginalized‘ since the merger.
It has also recently been revealed that he is selling a quantity of his TKO stock.
