The highly anticipated match between WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Cedric Alexander, and Buddy Murphy finally took place on last night’s episode of 205 Live.
The match has been building up for some time now with Buddy Murphy initially earning the right to face Alexander at Greatest Royal Rumble after defeating TJ Perkins, Akira Tozawa, and Kalisto in a fatal four-way. However, Murphy never got his title opportunity as he failed to make 205 weight limit and was consequently removed from the match.
Murphy has attacked Alexander several times in the weeks since and has secured huge wins over the likes of Kalisto and Mustafa Ali to solidify himself as the biggest threat to the title on the roster.
With Murphy riding a wave of momentum and the obvious animosity between him and Alexander, 205 Live general manager, Drake Maverick, made the match official last week.
The match itself was as awesome as it was expected to be with jaw breaking knees from Murphy and Alexander’s incredible athleticism leaving the crowd in awe.
After a back and forth bout that was fought at a blistering pace it was Alexander that ultimately got the victory, securing the win with a brutal Lumbar Check.
Since Alexander only won the belt at WrestleMania 34, it’s not surprising that he would retain. That doesn’t take away from the fact that Buddy Murphy is being portrayed as a major player in the Cruiserweight division. With Murphy holding wins over most of the top challengers on the brand and the obvious in-ring chemistry he has with Alexander, don’t be surprised if this match takes place again in the near future.
