It was made official on the September 4, 2018 edition of WWE SmackDown Live that Becky Lynch will challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell later this month.
The rivalry started when Charlotte earned her way into the SmackDown Women’s Title match at SummerSlam, which was initially set to be Lynch taking on then-champ Carmella in a singles match.
Flair won that bout and therefore the title, much to the disdain of the ‘Irish Lass Kicker,’ who beat down her former best friend after the match was over.
Since then, the pair have been at each other’s throats both physically and verbally. On SmackDown, the pair partook in a split screen interview wherein they basically just bickered about how they used to be friends but Lynch ruined that bond.
WWE is continuing to attempt to portray Charlotte as the babyface in all of this, but still to no avail whatsoever, as the crowd cheered Lynch throughout this segment. And so they should have. And continue to.

Charlotte is currently enjoying her second reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion, which stands at 17 days thus far. Her inaugural reign lasted 147 days from November 2017 to April 2018.
It was Carmella who dethroned the ‘Queen,’ when she cashed in her Money in the Bank contract in April, and held the title for 131 days until August 19.
Lynch herself has been SmackDown Women’s Champion previously, and was in fact the first ever holder of the belt, reigning for 84 days in 2016.
