Ever since Nikki and Brie Bella came back to WWE TV at SummerSlam last month, they have had a mixed reaction from fans. Some are simply not interested in seeing them again. This statement was echoed by NoDQ.com, with their article ‘How the Divas are Damaging the Evolution‘.
The article discusses women such as the Bellas and Alexa Bliss and how they do not measure up to women like Charlotte and Becky Lynch. This did not sit well with members of the current women’s roster.
Carmella, who had been subjected to similar criticism during her SmackDown Women’s title reign, retweeted the piece and called it “an embarrassing article”. She also voiced her disdain for the negativity around the name “Diva”, saying in her tweet:
This is an embarrassing article. Every single woman from the past and current roster have made women’s wrestling what it is. EVERYONE is deserving. Enough of the negativity around the “diva” moniker. https://t.co/JAqI9OIVBa

SmackDown General Manager Paige decided to weigh in on the article, giving a similar comment to what Carmella said in a two part tweet. In her first tweet, she said that women like the Bellas helped kickstart the #GiveDivasAChance hashtag that brought more attention to Women’s wrestling in WWE.

In the second part of her tweet, she called the article “crappy” and re-stated that women like Nikki and Brie paved the way for women like her.
