With everything in the world of WWE moving so quickly these days, you could be forgiven if you forgot that Chris Jericho was added to and then removed from a casket match with the Undertaker back at Greatest Royal Rumble. Recently, Jericho sat down with Inside the Ropes‘ Kenny McIntosh and told his side of that story.
“I called Vince to tell him about this Naito thing, on a Monday. Super cool about it, he’s really into it, a little bit trepidatious in certain ways but… three or four hours later, I get a text saying Rusev is back in the Casket Match. I’m like, okay, why? He goes, ‘Well the Prince of Saudi Arabia wants Rusev in the match.'”
Then, Jericho goes on to say that it is unlikely that was the case. In fact, he implied that it had a lot more to do with his involvement with NJPW. Vince considers them an enemy to be crushed. Ultimately, because of how it went down, Jericho looks at it as a business decision. So Vince didn’t want him to look strong heading to the competition. In that context, he agrees with the decision.
