For someone who reportedly hates tournaments, Vince McMahon sure promotes a lot of them.
He’s doing another one at Crown Jewel, hosting Greatest King Of The Ring, erm, the World Cup, featuring eight of the very best from around the world.
Only they are all American.
And several of them are past 40 years old.
Still, with the star power on offer, it should at the very least be an intriguing tournament.
WWE has done plenty of those. Intriguing, interesting, unique and flat out excellent tournaments over the years. Here are some of the most memorable.
14. Undisputed Title Tournament (Vengeance 2001)
It is debatable whether the four-man Undisputed Title tournament at Vengeance ’01 is even a real tournament.
The way it worked was two title matches, one between WWE Champion Steve Austin and Kurt Angle and another between World Champion The Rock and Chris Jericho.
The two winners and title holders then met in the final, with the winner being declared the first Undisputed WWE Champion.
It was the biggest night of Chris Jericho’s career to that point. He famously defeated Rock and Austin in the same night to capture the straps in two solid outings.
Memorable for being the first time the WWE and WCW belts were combined (although the WCW name had died at Survivor Series), which on paper at least was a monumental occasion.
