There’s a lot to be said for making your name in wrestling outside of WWE, but sometimes it’s just too tempting.
In the past months and years, WWE has signed some of the biggest indie talents in the world, including the likes of Finn Balor, Sami Zayn and Adam Cole.
Most recently, both Keith Lee and Matt Riddle have debuted in NXT, and it seems the temptation to join what is the biggest wrestling promotion in the world is increasing.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE are on the verge of bringing in another batch of Indie stars early next year. Dave Meltzer writes:
“A lot of new talent is scheduled for medicals in mid-November with plans for a January debuting class. We don’t have any names yet, but if you stat hearing about people canceling their 2019 indie bookings, that could be a start.
“They are pursuing two of the top workers in the business but I don’t think contractually either could make it by January. Plus, it may not happen since both are significant stars in major league companies.”
Although he doesn’t mention any names, he does say they are major players on the indie scene, so how about some speculation?
Cody recently assured fans that he had no plans to return to WWE on Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Rager at Sea, but his NJPW fellows may not be so reluctant.
The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll, Kenny Omega…pretty much everyone has at some point been linked with WWE, and more often than not, WWE get their way.
With the recent disbanding of the Bullet Club, it seems more likely than ever that these names could make the switch, but if there’s anyone in the world you could argue doesn’t need a WWE contract, it’s the men listed above.
If they are to debut, the end of January’s Royal Rumble would seem like a logical place to start. Just imagine the buzzer going for number 30 and it’s Kenny Omega…or James Ellsworth.
