Last night on WWE Raw, Seth Rollins issued on Open Challenge for his Intercontinental Championship. Many, (including myself, regrettably) thought this may be an opportunity for a fresh matchup we haven’t seen in a long time, or ever. With rumors spreading that Bray Wyatt was backstage at last night’s show, it seemed like a great opportunity to bring him back. However, we didn’t get that. At all.
Dolph Ziggler was the one to answer Seth’s challenge and the two fought for was seems like the 927th time this year. In reality, it’s a little bit less than that, but the actual numbers are still pretty ridiculous.
All credit to @BQGillsFan on Twitter for doing the math on this one. I know I wouldn’t have the patience for it.
Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler have shared the ring 15 times since June 18th, with 7 being singles matches. That's 15 times in 24 weeks. You could select a random week of WWE and have a 62.5% chance of seeing this match. @ThisisLukeOwen @OliDavis @ElFakidor @WrestleTalk_TV #RAW

Let’s just break that down for a second here. Since June 18 this year, that’s just over 5 months ago, Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins have shared the ring 15 times. 7 of those matches are singles matches, with others including tag matches with Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Drew McIntyre thrown in there. Bear in mind, this doesn’t include any in-ring promo segments they shared, or video packages to hype feuds. Including those, this number would be significantly higher.
If you picked any week between June 18 and now at random, you’d have a 62.5% chance of seeing Seth Rollins vs Dolph Ziggler. That is absolutely insane. When fans say they’re tired of seeing this feud, it’s quite easy to see why. This doesn’t even take into account house shows, which would add an extra 3 or 4 matches a week to this too. Dolph and Seth must be getting sick of each other.
I for one am quite looking forward to when these two move on to separate feuds and never interact again. Maybe one of them could be drafted to SmackDown, just to make sure that happens. If they’re both on the same brand at the same time, I worry they’ll accidentally bump into each other and somehow still put on a match of the night.
