According to a post on the ever-reliable WrestleVotes Twitter account, Kofi Kingston could be in line for a push off the back of his superb performance in SmackDown’s gauntlet match this past Tuesday night.
The account notes that the hour-long performance from Kofi was the spot originally planned for Mustafa Ali. Like in New Japan with Jay White taking Kenny Omega’s spot and storyline, Kofi was simply switched into Ali’s position and the booking remained the same.
So impressive was Kofi over the course of his four matches against Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles that he could now be in line for a big push, having impressed officials backstage. Kofi is receiving rave reviews from fans for his performance in the gauntlet match and that has not gone unnoticed by WWE bosses.
It remains unclear what the WWE Championship match will be at WrestleMania, with no obvious opponent for Bryan. Could it be that Ali was the one set for the title match at the big show and Kofi will take his place? Or perhaps they will meet at Fastlane prior to that, in order to capitalise on Kingston’s momentum. Maybe WWE will opt for a surprise and have Kofi win the Elimination Chamber match.
Having defeated Bryan in the gauntlet, a case can certainly be made for him having earned a singles shot, regardless of what happens at Chamber.
