WWE opened the state-of-the-art Performance Centre back in July 2013. This was a place where the next generation of talent, belonging to WWE’s developmental brand NXT would come and perfect their craft, learning the WWE-way of doing things. The Performance Centre is also used for superstars returning from injury to train before they make their comeback to TV.
WWE would then unveil the second Performance Centre in England at the beginning of 2019. This would be used for talent from the United Kingdom and wider-Europe who would be working for NXT UK. This was the next step in Triple H’s global expansion.
When speaking Wrestling Inc. AEW’s Executive Vice President, and former WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, was asked about the possibility of AEW opening their own training facility. He said “I have access to a really good facility here in Atlanta…I have a really good facility that’s called the One Fall Power Factory that the AEW coordinator, Mike, he also is the coach there.”
The former Intercontinental Champion would add that “it would be a long shot to do a feeder system versus maybe some sponsored trainees instead. Where they could go to the different schools.”
Rhodes even threw some shade at WWE’s new performance centre, saying that ”people don’t talk about how great OVW was near enough because we didn’t have four rings and Shawn Michaels teaching us”.
The son of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes would then go on to say that he liked ”the idea of maybe some sponsored trainees instead. Ya Know, here’s four guys – and I know Matt Jackson has talked about doing something similar with OWE and China about maybe a bit of a trainee exchange. And that’s something that he could speak to, but yeah, I think maybe sponsored training more than a full-time center. I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves.”
It appears Cody is being realistic with AEW at the moment. With AEW having not even run their first show yet, ‘Double or Nothing’, which is set to take place in Las Vegas on May 25th, it is truly special that people are speaking about the possibility of an AEW Performance Center so soon in the life of the promotion.
