Legend of the wrestling business, Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger, has officially announced that he will be retiring from in-ring competition next January in the Tokyo Dome.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the legendary junior heavyweight confirmed his retirement, stating that his retirement ceremony will take place at the Tokyo Dome next January. This will most likely coincide with, or take place during, WrestleKingdom 14.
The next ten months will see Liger journey around Japan, with him stating that he wanted to show himself to everyone and display what he can do one more time. He also revealed that he had no dream opponents in mind, but he just wanted to “enjoy wrestling”.
Liger: thank you for joining me here. I will retire next year in January at the Tokyo Dome.

Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger has been, and remains to this day, one of the most innovative and influential junior heavyweights to ever step foot inside a ring. Debuting in 1984, he is an 11-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, 3-time Best of the Super Juniors winner, as well as placing in the PWI 500s since it began in 1991. For those not so solid with math, that’s 28 years of being one of the top performers in the world.
Liger will be leaving behind an astounding legacy, and one that will never be replicated again. Thank you, Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger.
