On this past Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, the blue brand’s tag team champions The Hardy Boyz were forced to vacate the titles due to a knee injury suffered by Jeff Hardy on a recent house show event.
Fans have been promised that the situation will be dealt with this week on SmackDown and new champions crowned, but fans were left scratching their heads wondering who could step into the role due to the lack of tandems on the brand.
A recent tweet from WWE may have given the game away about the promotion’s plans for the belts:
Let's get down to the bottom of this. Who should be the new #SDLive #TagTeamChampions?? 🤔https://t.co/RTe9krkSs6
— WWE (@WWE) May 5, 2019
The tweet seems to reveal that the new pairings of Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor & Ali and Shane McMahon & Elias will be teams competing in whatever match or tournament the promotion comes up with to crown new champions. Also involved are Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura, The B-Team, Heavy Machinery and the New Day duo of Xavier Woods and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.
Tune in tomorrow night for our live coverage of SmackDown to see how this situation is resolved.
