The IIconics Break WWE Record

The IIconics Break WWE Record

The IIconics have celebrated making history in WWE by becoming the longest reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

WWE posted the following video of the Aussies celebrating their 50-day-plus “achievement”:

For many reasons, this is ridiculous.

Obviously the video is intended to be tongue-in-cheek and the celebration of the record is supposed to be silly.

However it does highlight what a mess WWE has made of the women’s tag division since WrestleMania.

The IIconics won the titles at WrestleMania 35 from inaugural champions Sasha Banks and Bayley, a result that caused Sasha to go AWOL from the company out of frustration.

It was assumed that WWE had some sort of grand plan for the IIconics after ‘Mania but they have rarely defended the titles since, have lost repeatedly in singles and non-title matches and have generally devalued the worth of the belts just four months into their existence.

Furthermore, the record also fails to acknowledge that WWE had Women’s Tag Team Titles from 1983-1988.

Every one of the five different reigns with those titles lasted for far longer than the IIconics’ 55 days (as of this writing). In fact, the shortest reign was The Jumping Bomb Angels with 136 days. The longest was The Glamour Girls with 906 days!

If the IIconics can beat that then they will have something to celebrate.
