It was confirmed by WWE yesterday that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff had been hired by the company as Executive Directors of Raw and SmackDown Live respectively.
The news apparently came as a surprise to many people within WWE, with only a select few figures reportedly knowing that the two controversial figures were going to be given new roles within the company.
It has since been reported by Wrestling Observer Radio‘s Dave Meltzer that not even FOX (Smackdown’s new home come October 2019), knew that Bischoff was going to be hired to run the show.
On the matter, Meltzer had the following to say:
“I do know that the FOX people had no idea this was coming”.
Dave Meltzer is also reporting that FOX would have prefered to have had Paul Heyman running Smackdown instead of Eric Bischoff.
