This Eric Bischoff saga just keeps getting weirder, doesn’t it?
From the shock of his being hired at SmackDown’s Executive Director to hearing he wasn’t backstage at SmackDown Live this week, it has been a very confusing few weeks.
It is now being reported in the new Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Bischoff won’t be involved in the creative side of things at all, and that his role will be to interface with all departments:
Eric Bischoff was not at Raw or Smackdown this week. He actually started at work on 7/17. He ended up having no influence on Smackdown this past week and right now those in creative were told that he will most likely not be involved with the creative process and that it looks like his job will be to interface with all of the departments in the company as well as with FOX. However he is to be the leader of the Smackdown side of things, which currently has no leadership, just Ryan Ward and others pitching ideas to Vince.
Despite seemingly being given the exact same role as Paul Heyman, who is heavily involved in creative, it seems that WWE has decided to give them completely different roles.
Whether this is a more recent decision after it was revealed that Bischoff knew nothing about modern wrestling is not clear.
We will keep you up to date with any updates.
