Former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio has been pinned by Andrade twice in as many weeks on Monday Night Raw.
While his wins have not always been clean, Andrade is seemingly starting to receive somewhat of a push in WWE, with reports suggesting that he has the support backstage of a few very powerful people.
It is interesting that WWE has chosen to have Andrade defeat Rey Mysterio clean in consecutive weeks. However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that Rey’s new role in WWE is to put over younger talent.
“The mentality is that Rey is 44 years old so because he’s 44 years old, his basic thing is to get new guys over.”
This would certainly make sense. It seems like common sense for WWE to want to capitalise on Mysterio’s popularity at the moment by having a younger and fresher Andrade defeat him.
With WWE searching for a Hispanic star, it would make even more sense for Rey Mysterio to be the man who puts over the former NXT Champion.
Mysterio could be the man who helps Andrade and WWE break into the Hispanic market once again, with Andrade carrying on Rey’s legacy for years to come.
However, Rey’s feelings towards his new role are not known. This comes after it was reported that should WWE continue to hand Mysterio with losses each and every week, he would “jump to AEW in a heartbeat”.
